FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE civic center OF GREATER DES MOINES receives $20,000 grant from pioneer hi-bred for its annual fund
Annual fund supports the Civic Center’s operations and education programs
DES MOINES, Iowa – The Civic Center of Greater Des Moines is pleased to announce the receipt of a $20,000 grant from Pioneer Hi-Bred, a DuPont business, in support of the Civic Center’s Annual Fund.
“The Civic Center must raise almost $2 million annually to support our operations and education programs” said Civic Center President and CEO, Jeff Chelesvig. “As an example, the Civic Center’s Applause Education Series brought more than 38,000 students and teachers from 40 Iowa counties to see live, professional performances. Gifts like this one from Pioneer Hi-Bred allow us to offer this experience at a ticket price of only $1 per student, even though the actual cost to the Civic Center is more than $6.”
“We are pleased to support arts and culture organizations that enrich our communities in countless ways,” said Michelle Gowdy, senior manager for Community Investment at Pioneer. “The Civic Center provides many world-class performances as well as offers educational opportunities for our youth.
The Civic Center of Greater Des Moines is Iowa’s leading performing arts center, presenting seven performance series – the Willis Broadway Series, Prairie Meadows Temple Theater Series, Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield Family Series, The Dance Series, Live at the Temple, Lunch Unplugged, and Applause - as well as a slate of educational programs. It is the home to performing arts organizations such as the Des Moines Symphony and Stage West. In the 2010-2011 season, 366 performances were hosted in the Civic Center’s three stages to a total audiences of more than 336,000.
As the philanthropic arm of Pioneer, Community Investment makes contributions to non-profit organizations on behalf of the business and employees. Consideration for Community Outreach grants are given to communities where Pioneer representatives, employees and customers live and work, and that support quality-of-life initiatives to create an improved, sustainable lifestyle for people worldwide.
