“The opportunity to attend the fine events held at our Civic Center gives many children a glimpse of what is possible for them to achieve, whether to simply understand and appreciate the arts – or to use their talent to develop as a performer.”
Jan, Des Moines, IA
The Civic Center of Greater Des Moines believes in the power of live, professional theater to entertain, impact and educate audiences. The annual gifts of our Members and Education Fund donors make it possible for the Civic Center to offer dynamic theater-based learning opportunities to youth and adults alike, such as:
- The Applause! Live Performances for Young Audiences Education Series, which welcomes more than 20,000 K-8 students annually at only $1 each;
- Outreach programs and residencies that take Civic Center programming into central Iowa classrooms;
- Broadway workshops, a unique day of learning that brings the themes and history of Broadway presentations to life;
- Post-show Q&A’s that allow audiences to discuss the content of shows and interact with the cast;
- Master classes that provide aspiring dancers and performers the opportunity to work with theater and dance professionals.
“Thank you so much for this experience. I loved it! Please continue this program; it is really beneficial for students like me who would not usually attend.”
Sheila, Des Moines, IA.
