APPLAUSE SERIES SCHOOL PERFORMANCE
SHOPPING FOR SHOES
SCOTLAND’S VISIBLE FICTIONS
GRADES 6-12 • CAPACITY 299
TEMPLE THEATER
Experience a story of passion and fashion and hearts and soles, as told by Scotland’s award-winning Visible Fictions. Siobhan, who is passionately politically aware, spends her time signing petitions and protesting climate change. Her crush, Shaun, on the other hand, is passionate about just one thing- his extensive shoe collection. To Shaun, his Nike Air Jordans, Air Max Aggressors, Gazelles, and Corduroy Adidas are all about self-expression and defining who he is. A piece of Siobhan’s heart belongs to the shoe-obsessed Shaun, but he’d have trouble even recognizing her. Siobhan, however, is determined to prove to Shaun that there’s more to life than shoes and soon helps him to discover that a pair of shoes can do much more than just help a person express oneself. Impressive use of props adds delectable wit to this heartwarming, one-woman production.
Shopping for Shoes is a wonderful piece to stimulate conversation about global trade issues and to help students understand the implications of their own actions and behavior as global citizens of the twenty-first century. As a skillfully crafted piece of storytelling, it serves as a resource to inspire and develop students’ English and drama work.

BEYOND THE PERFORMANCE
SERVICE LEARNING PROJECT: Shoe Drive
Raise global awareness in your students through participating in our Soles4Souls shoe drive. Participating schools will collect new and gently worn shoes and to bring the donated shoes to the theater on the performance day. The shoes will then be given to Soles4Souls, an international relief organization which distributes shoes to people in need around the world. Through acting locally, students will experience firsthand how they can make a difference on an international scale. For more information contact Michelle at 515-246-2355 or mmcdonald@civiccenter.org.
Please note: all guests, regardless of age, must purchase a ticket to be permitted into the theater for this production. To ensure the best possible experience for all audience members, children under the age of three will not be permitted in the theater
