THE STORY OF HARRIET TUBMAN
THEATREWORKS USA
GRADES 4-8 • CAPACITY 2,000
CIVIC CENTER MAIN HALL
After making her own perilous escape to freedom on the Underground Railroad, Harriet Tubman returned to the South another 19 times to help an additional 300 slaves escape. In constant danger of relentless slave catchers, each journey was a threatening undertaking as she guided her passengers up creek beds, through swamps, and over hills in the dark of night. Her determination and success made her one of the Underground Railroad’s most celebrated conductors. Featuring highly theatrical scenes, dance, and spirituals of the period, Freedom Train honors Harriet Tubman’s spirit of self-sacrifice and courage.
