APPLAUSE SERIES SCHOOL PERFORMANCE
FOUR SCORE AND SEVEN YEARS AGO
ArtsPower National Touring Theatre
GRADES 3-8 • CAPACITY 2,000
CIVIC CENTER MAIN HALL
Performance length: 60 minutes
To young Lemuel, who has escaped slavery in Georgia, life in Gettysburg is everything he had dreamed it would be. His ideas about the North and the South, as well as what it means to be a free man, are challenged however, when he unexpectedly befriends a young Confederate soldier. The two men may be of different races and on different sides of the Civil War, but they have much to teach each other about bravery and loyalty. As we commemorate the sesquicentennial of the Civil War, join us for this suspenseful musical set against one of the most defining periods in our country’s history.
Theater tours available following this performance. Advance registration required.

Beyond the Performance:
"Songs of the Civil War" Program
Teaching Artist Bob Welch will visit your school to present an interactive program that entertains and educates about the Civil War period through music (featuring vocals, banjo and guitar), storytelling, and history. Designed to capture your students' imaginations, Bob shares favorite tunes of the Union and Confederacy, such as the Battle Hymn of the Republic and The Bonnie Blue Flag, while also telling fascinating stories involving Abraham Lincoln, the nine-year-old drummer boy Johnny Clem, General Lee, Stonewall Jackson and other notable figures. $20 per session. To request, contact Michelle at 515-246-2355 or mmcdonald@civiccenter.org.
Please note: all guests, regardless of age, must be included in the group reservation to be permitted into the theater. Because Applause Series programs are intended for school-age audiences, children under 3 will not be permitted in the theater.
