TEMPLE THEATER
The prairie-- hardy, desolate, and immensely beautiful. This touching one-woman performance weaves together a century of prairie history. Explore the hardships of Oregon Trail pioneers crossing the prairie by covered wagon; the hopes and struggles of homesteaders creating a new life on its rich plains; the injustice experienced by Native Americans as western expansion led to loss of land and culture; and the terror of the Dust Bowl years as the land slipped away. These amazing true stories of hope and survival are sure to inspire.

BEYOND THE PERFORMANCE
IOWA CONNECTION: Living History Farms Programs
Living History Farms outreach programs allow students to explore life on the Iowa prairie. Two program options are available. In the Ioway Indian Program, students learn about the lives of Native Americans, discovering the food they ate and how their homes, clothes, and tools were made. In the 1850 Pioneer Iowa program, students will learn about pioneer life and explore topics such as oxen, cooking in a fireplace, and building a log house. Each interactive program incorporates artifacts, a slide show, hands-on activities and games.
