PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR TEACHERS As part of the Civic Center’s commitment to arts education, our K-12 school programs include professional development opportunities for classroom teachers. By providing teachers with tools to integrate all areas of the arts— drama, music, dance, and visual— with core curriculum areas, we hope to make a longstanding impact on student learning and their development into critical and creative thinkers.
In 2010, the Civic Center became a member of the Kennedy Center’s national Partners in Education program, along with our neighborhood school district Des Moines Public Schools.* This program builds local partnership teams and provides them with planning strategies and national-level resources to implement professional development opportunities for teachers. As one aspect of this partnership, the registration fee for current Civic Center professional development courses is waived for teachers employed by Des Moines Public Schools.
