Instructor: Jan Louise Kusske | Capacity: 20 | Course Fee: $80*
Create stunning visual art with your students while integrating lessons in reading and writing. Course participants will explore the works of Tomie dePaola and Leo Lionni and learn how to write text and make visual art in the same techniques as the author/illustrators. Other activities appropriate for primary students, such as story murals, story panels with text, and puppetry, will also be explored. The course will culminate with participants designing a unit integrating visual and theater arts into Iowa Core Literacy standards. Participating teachers will have the opportunity to have their students’ resulting work publicly displayed at the Civic Center during the presentations of Tomie dePaola’s Strega Nona: The Musical or Leo Lionni’s Swimmy, Frederick & Inch by Inch, respectively.
