Bus Driver Information
The Civic Center is located at 221 Walnut Street in the square block between Second and Third Streets and Locust and Walnut Streets. Our telephone number is (515) 246-2300.
Police Officials will direct incoming buses to designated parking spaces with hooded meters
Please do not drop off passengers in front of the theater and move to another parking space. The Des Moines Police Department, the Des Moines Traffic and Transportation Department, and the Civic Center Staff have developed procedures that address the unique needs of Applause! performances. It is our goal to maintain a high level of safety and security. Please follow the instructions of the city officials and the Civic Center staff to ensure a safe, enjoyable experience. Buses need to remain in the designated bus parking for the duration of the show.
Special Vehicle Identification
If you are driving a Des Moines Public School Bus, please make sure that there is a “School Sign,” with the name of the school you are transporting, in the passenger’s side of the front windshield.
If you are transporting someone using a wheelchair or carrying someone who needs to be unloaded close to the Civic Center, please make sure there is a wheelchair logo sign provided by the teacher or the bus garage, in the passenger’s side of the front windshield. The police will direct you where to unload.
Please make sure the Civic Center is informed of the total number and type of vehicles you will be bringing.
Directions to the Civic Center
From I-235 Westbound:
Take the Third Street exit then travel south approximately six blocks to the Civic Center.
From I-235 Eastbound:
Take the Seventh Street exit then travel south approximately six blocks Locust Street. Travel east (left) on Locust Street four blocks to the Civic Center.

Parking Information
To reach the nearest parking garage for cars and personal vans: There are two City of Des Moines parking garages located within walking distance of the Civic Center.
Fourth and Grand Parking Garage: You may enter this parking garage from Grand Avenue, just east of Fourth Street or you may enter the garage from Fourth Street, just north of Locust Street.
Third and Court Parking Garage: You may enter this parking garage directly from Third Street, just south of Walnut Avenue.
Both garages are connected to the skywalk system.
If there are after-show activities planned for your group in the downtown area, please do not leave the bus parked at the theater after the show. The parking spaces will be needed to accommodate other groups.
Drivers: please come in and watch the show or relax in our lobby and have a cup of coffee. You are always welcome.
